The University of Miami seeks an accomplished senior scholar who will serve as Director of the Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) and hold a tenured primary appointment in the College of Arts and Sciences as the first occupant of its new Weeks Chair in Latin American Studies.
The Director and Weeks Professor must be a distinguished scholar in a relevant discipline, including in the Professional Schools, whose academic achievement, research, publications and administrative interests merit a tenured appointment in one of the College of Arts & Sciences’ social science or humanities departments. As Director of CLAS, this individual will be responsible for intellectual leadership and vision with administrative oversight of the Center’s staff, budget, research and academic programs and outreach activities. A significant portion of CLAS funding is expected to come from external sources that the Director will be expected to secure in collaboration with both faculty and advancement professionals.
Requirements include a Ph.D., as well as publications and experience appropriate to appointment as a tenured professor and the ability to write and speak fluently in English, Spanish and/or Portuguese (Kreyòl a plus). Qualifications should also include administrative and fund-raising experience and a record of international program development in the Americas.
The Center Director will report directly to the Dean of the College of Arts & Sciences.
