Question: can you fast-track imports into the United States and prevent terrorism at the same time?

Answer: Absolutely.

I'll tell you how in a moment.

The Garrett Wasny Webcast is brought to you by globalEDGE. globalEDGE - your online source for global business knowledge.

And by PowerFinish. PowerFinish - the best PowerPoint Templates and Backgrounds on the Planet ... Guaranteed.

Yes, you can fast-track imports into the United States and prevent terrorism at the same time.

How? C-TPAT or the Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism.

Launched in April, 2002, C-TPAT is a US Customs program to improve supply chain security using public-private partnerships.

Under the program, US importers may apply to conduct a comprehensive self-assessment and upgrade of their own supply chain security. In return, US Customs will reduce their inspections and other Customs compliance burdens and offer a "fast lane across the border."

Scores of companies have already signed up for the program including Daimler Chrysler, Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Motorola, Sara Lee Corporation, and Target. But the program is not just for large multinationals. Any company of any size in practically any industry, anywhere that imports into the US may apply to become a C-TPAT participant.

For more details on the program, visit the C-TPAT website at the address on your screen (http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/import/commercial_enforcement/ctpat/). By signing up, you'll not only improve security for your company and all its employees, operations and cargo, but also protect the United States from terrorist threats.

On behalf of our sponsors, globalEDGE and PowerFinish, thanks for tuning in to this edition of the Garrett Wasny Webcast.
