Job Description

Stevens Institute of Technology, a premier, private research university situated in Hoboken, NJ, seeks a Director of the MBA Program at the Howe School of Technology Management.

The MBA Program at the Howe School has been recently remastered to better align the needs of our highly qualified candidates with the employers at Fortune 500 companies who will hire them. The program has been streamlined to make it more affordable, yet just as rigorous, with concentrations in the most in-demand fields in the corporate world. The Howe MBA puts a premium on a technology-flavored education that brings a practical perspective to the classroom. To enhance this, the program earlier this year instituted a Field Consulting Program, in which MBA candidates complete a real-world project at a partner company, leveraging their communication and critical thinking skills with their technological expertise.

The Director will be expected to continue the transformation of the Howe MBA into an even more robust degree program at Stevens, capitalizing on the university’s location — both at the intersection of technology and business, and geographically, across the river from the financial and commercial epicenter of New York City. The right candidate will have a plan to create a clear and concise identity for Howe as an innovative institution in management education, and to increase enrollment and quality of applicants through innovation, with a clear focus on market-responsive programs for both domestic and international students. The Director will report to the Associate Dean of the Graduate Enterprise of the Howe School of Technology Management at the university, and will be a full and active member of the leadership team of the Dean of the Howe School. The Director will be responsible for collaboratively working with the Dean, Associate Dean, administrators, faculty and staff to further build and enhance the MBA Programs at Stevens.

The successful candidate will possess: a demonstrated record of successful leadership in growing an educational program or other institutional unit; experience as a Program Director or Assistant Director, preferably of an MBA program; demonstrated ability to act as an effective and collegial collaborator; a Ph.D./DBA in a relevant discipline, with experience as a faculty member; significant interaction with corporate organizations and external constituents in the areas of corporate education, consulting and/or research; experience in a business environment; and an understanding of the role technology plays in business.

At the forefront of innovation and entrepreneurship since the late 1800s, Stevens is in the midst of a 10-year strategic plan, “The Future: Ours to Create,” designed to further extend the Stevens legacy to create a forward-looking and far-reaching institution with global impact. Leveraging the Stevens Institute of Technology’s strengths in entrepreneurship and technology innovation, the Howe School grounds students in critical thinking and teaches them to perform in highly technological and global environments. The Howe School has grown aggressively as it aims to become a leading business school with technology at the core. Under the leadership of Dr. Gregory Prastacos, Dean of the Howe School, and Stevens President Dr. Nariman Farvardin, the university has put a strategic plan in place, with the Howe School creating aggressive benchmarks to meet stronger research and enrollment goals by 2017.

Recruitment will continue until the position is filled.
