Job Description

The Sonoco International Business Department, Darla Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina is seeking candidates for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, or a Tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor in the area of International Business, to begin August, 2015.

Excellence in research and teaching are the primary criteria for this position. Applicants must demonstrate potential for publication of international business research in top academic outlets. A strong disciplinary foundation is important, particularly as applied to understanding international business phenomena at the subunit, firm, or institutional level. Demonstrated ability to successfully teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate level is also important and a country or regional expertise is desirable.

The primary vision for the Sonoco International Business Department is to take a leading role in the development of high impact theory and research on global business. Department faculty come from diverse disciplinary backgrounds but share an overarching common interest in understanding the multinational enterprise and the institutional context within which it is embedded. Faculty include Kendall Roth, Tatiana Kostova, Chuck Kwok, Hildy Teegen, Rob Rolfe, Gerald McDermott, Andrew Spicer, Omrane Guedhami, Nancy Buchan, Sali Li, Lite Nartey, Michael Murphree, Marc VanEssen, Frank Rydzewski, Dan Ostergaard, Ken Erickson, and Alice Leri.

All courses taught by the department are international in content. We offer an undergraduate international business major that has been ranked #1 for 17 consecutive years, as well as collaborative undergraduate international programs with Chinese University of Hong Kong and Universidad de Chile (FEN). Our flagship International MBA has been ranked in the top 1 or 2 international business programs in the country in the last 25 years. A recently introduced Master in International Business program offers dual degrees with prominent universities including Bocconi (Italy), ESCP-Paris (France), University of Mannheim (Germany), and Koc University (Turkey). The Department has a vibrant Ph.D. program currently including 15 students.
