Position Summary

McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management invites applications for a position in the Strategy & Organization Area at the Assistant Professor (tenure-track) level. We seek candidates with a strong research orientation and strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

McGill is a leading research-intensive university located in the heart of Montreal, a cosmopolitan, highly educated, bilingual city with a diverse and vibrant cultural life. According to a 2015 Economist report, Montreal is the second best city to live in the world. McGill University is ranked 21st in the most recent QS World University Rankings. The Desautels Faculty of Management has 80 full-time professors and over 3000 students in the BCom, MBA, EMBA, and PhD programs, as well as a range of executive education offerings. Faculty members in the Strategy & Organization Area conduct research with a variety of approaches in strategy, organization theory, international business, entrepreneurship and innovation, including management in developing and transition economies, not-for-profit organizations, and environmental and social issues. Professors have diverse disciplinary backgrounds, and enjoy a high level of independence in their research and teaching endeavors.

McGill’s emphasis is on research quality, innovation, and impact. S&O faculty have recently published in leading international academic journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, American J. of Sociology, Strategic Management Journal, Management Science, Organization Science, PNAS, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Industrial and Corporate Change, J. of International Business Studies, J. of Management Studies, J. of Management and J. of Business Venturing. Compensation levels, teaching load, research funding and travel support are highly competitive and similar to those at other leading business schools in North America.

Minimum qualifications:

  1. Ph.D. degree (completed or expected by August 2016) in Management, Strategy, International Business, Entrepreneurship, Organizational Theory, or a related field;
  2. a strong record of research publication, or, for new graduates, demonstrated potential to conduct and publish high quality and innovative research;
  3. evidence of effective teaching. The anticipated start date for the appointment when filled is August 2016.

AOM Interviews

We will be conducting initial informal interviews at the Academy of Management (AOM) meetings in Vancouver in August.
