Job Description

To promote original research in the innovation management field which impacts managerial practice, the Mack Institute for Innovation Management at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania is seeking applications for a post-doctoral researcher or visiting scholar with closely aligned interests.

The Mack Institute is an interdisciplinary research center whose mission is to promote thought leadership on innovation management and its application, both on campus and in the broader community externally. In pursuing this mission, the Institute connects three major constituents: scholars, industry partners, and students locally and globally. The Institute explores the strategies that allow firms to survive, compete, and thrive through innovation management. Our multidisciplinary faculty and researchers develop practical approaches to managing innovation, conveyed through thought-provoking conferences, workshops, and publications.

The following are the Mack Institute’s current research priorities:

  • Leading and organizing for innovation
  • Creating and selecting innovation opportunities
  • Capturing economic value from innovation investments
  • Strategies for innovating
  • Innovation in business models and service delivery

In view of the multifaceted scope of activities and stakeholders of the Institute, the duties of the post-doctoral researcher or visiting scholar position will include the following:

  • Support of Mack Institute directors in pursuing their research projects
  • Development of original applied research for the Institute
  • Writing of publications bridging theory and practice, such as reports, white papers, and case studies in tune with the Institute’s needs and priorities
  • Possible teaching assistantship for courses against extra pay

Accordingly, the basic requirements for eligibility for the position include the following:

  • Doctoral degree in Management, Economics, or related field from an accredited institution
  • Experience in advanced statistical methods and econometrics
  • Ability to work with academics and industry executives alike
  • Excellent written and verbal English language skills

The contract will be for a period of one year initially, expected to be commenced in Fall 2016, and is renewable based on performance. Compensation and the type of position offered will be competitive with similar positions and commensurate with experience.
