Position
The Department of Management of Tilburg University invites applications for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position with an emphasis on Strategy. We are looking for a candidate with top research potential and a commitment to teaching excellence, whose work fits our orientation towards strategy scholarship from a management perspective. We are open to candidates with interests in various subfields such as international strategy, innovation strategy, etc. We are able to hire applicants to join the Department in any month during 2017; however, ABD applicants are expected to have completed their doctoral dissertation prior to taking up employment.
As part of a strategic growth and recruitment drive, the Department also has openings in entrepreneurship, at open rank, and in information management or supply chain management, at assistant professor level. Department and Position Background
The Department of Management is part of the School of Economics and Management at Tilburg University. As a whole, the Department consists of 31 tenured or tenure-track faculty members and 8 lecturers in two sections: (strategy and organization; information and supply chain management). Within the Department, the Strategy and Organization section conducts research in the fields of strategy, international business, technology & innovation, entrepreneurship, and organization theory from a variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives. Its tenured or tenure-track members include professors Geert Duysters (also Vice-Dean for Research), Xavier Martin (Deputy Head of Department), Niels Noorderhaven (Head of Department), and Tal Simons (PhD Track Coordinator); associate professors Zilin He, Jeroen Kuilman, Louis Mulotte and Aswin van Oijen; and assistant professors Shivaram Devarakonda, Elena Golokvo, Martin Goossen, Astrid Kramer, Gerwin van der Laan, Fons Naus and Nufer Ates (part-time). The Department also has a high-caliber set of emeritus (Jean-Francois Hennart and Bart Nooteboom) and affiliated faculty and fellows. Department members come from leading universities in North America, Asia and Europe.
The Department has a very strong research orientation with a focus on high-quality publications. The Department is associated with several research institutes, among which the Tilburg Center of Entrepreneurship (TCE) and the Center for Innovation Research (CIR), and with several large-scale research initiatives.
Faculty of the Department mostly teach in two Bachelor programs, four Master’s programs, two Research Master’s programs and two PhD tracks. These include the top-ranked undergraduate (International Business Administration) and Master’s (Strategic Management) programs in the Netherlands in the areas this position covers (source: Elsevier Best Studies 2015). All programs except one of the Bachelor programs are taught in English. Non-Dutch-speaking candidates will be asked to teach in English only. We aim to maximize the research time available to active faculty, and working conditions are otherwise comparable to major research universities in Europe and North America. The teaching load for pre-tenure faculty is the equivalent of two courses plus guidance of Bachelor and Master’s thesis projects, in total per year (40% teaching time). Compensation is competitive with similar schools, and we provide support for conferences and other research related expenses. Faculty moving to the Netherlands may be eligible for a large tax abatement for a period of ten years.
