Job Description

Northern Arizona University (NAU) seeks a visionary, creative and entrepreneurial leader to serve as Dean of The W. A. Franke College of Business.

The W. A. Franke College of Business (FCB) is an accredited member of AACSB International. One of the six academic colleges that comprise Northern Arizona University, The W. A. Franke College of Business enrolls approximately 2,675 students majoring in accountancy, business economics, finance, information systems, management or marketing. The School of Hotel & Restaurant Management enrolls approximately 870 students. In addition to its undergraduate degree programs, the FCB offers a full-time MBA program that includes approximately 32 students, for a total student count of 3,578 in Fall ’16.

Reporting to the Provost, the Dean of The W. A. Franke College of Business serves as both the chief academic and administrative officer for the college. The dean will be a dynamic, collaborative and energetic leader who will be responsible for enhancing and revitalizing the academic programs, inspiring faculty, staff and students and engaging with an active advisory board as well as with the business community. The dean will work with the university’s leadership and faculty to build a diverse faculty and staff, support distinctive academic programs, promote interdisciplinary and boundary-spanning collaborations, grow scholarship, and advance the university’s public engagement goals.

The FCB includes 90 full-time and approximately 40 part-time faculty. A distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and service, as well as progressive leadership experience and an earned doctorate or equivalent terminal degree in business or a related field are required. The ideal candidate will offer evidence of administrative success in higher education, knowledge of professional business practices, an entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving and fundraising, and experience in a leadership role in the AACSB accreditation process.

NAU has more than 3,650 faculty and staff supported by an annual budget of $550 million. NAU’s highest enrollment peaked with just over 30,000 students statewide. Flagstaff is a city rich in cultural diversity with a population of 70,000 located less than 150 miles from Phoenix. Situated at the base of the majestic San Francisco Peaks, its 7,000 foot elevation and four-season climate make Flagstaff ideal for year-round outdoor activities. Nearby attractions include the Grand Canyon, Lowell Observatory, Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona, Monument Valley, Sunset Crater, Meteor Crater, and the Arizona Snowbowl.
