1) NEW RESOURCE DESK

We have reorganized the Resource Desk section to better cater to our users’
needs. The Resource Desk boasts a selection of over 1,500 resource links
and is divided into Global Resources, Market Potential Indicators, and
Glossary sections. We are proud to announce the addition of a brand new
section, Country Insights.

The Country Insights section is organized around the world regions but
still enables the user to visit individual country pages via drop-down
menus. The web pages provide a vast amount of information on each country,
organized in a logical and easy-to-navigate fashion. Compiled information
on each country includes a map, key statistics, history, economy,
government, and links to country-specific resources, stock markets, and
recent news.

The Global Resources section is a directory of international business
resources categorized by specific orientation and content.

Search feature: We have expanded the search facility to incorporate the
Glossary section.

Finding difficulties with the new interface and want to go back to the old
categories? We have good news for you; they are still available. From
Resource Desk, check out the Lost? Box and click on "Old Resource Desk"
to revert to the old interface at:

"Enthusiastic proponents have characterized online learning as the solution
to all the problems confronting traditional education. Skeptics argue that
web-based learning cannot live up to the standards of the traditional brick
and mortar classroom. Is the truth somewhere in between?" This article gives
some interesting perspectives on Internet-mediated learning in both academic
and corporate settings.

How to Negotiate ‘Yes’ Across Cultural Boundaries
HBS Working Knowledge; 04/08/2002 http://hbswk.hbs.edu/pubitem.jhtml?id=2878&sid=0&pid=0&t=globalization

Promising deals have fallen through not because they were bad, but due to
a lack of understanding of cultural differences between negotiating parties.
What might appear to be a watertight contract in one culture may be taken as
a basis for re-negotiation in another culture. According to this article,
the best way to conduct successful negotiations is to have a clear
understanding of the players and develop a strategy to meet their
expectations.
