$US Dive Makes Crucial Ripples
NEWS.com.au (November 25, 2004)
http://finance.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4057,11490862%255E521,00.html
Robert Gottliebsen provides a brief description of the world's currency scenario, and the impact of the falling dollar value in the global market, with special attention to Australia. The Australian import and export scenario described in this article can be applied to most countries that have a cheaper currency in relation to the US dollar. China and Japan appear to be the antagonists of this scenario. In order to increase their sales to US, they have devaluated their currency, propping up the US dollar. Russia started a move to make some of its dollar reserves into Euro reserves due to the increase in oil prices.
Cocoa Prices Soar on Ivory Unrest
BBC News (November 8, 2004)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3991939.stm
The anti-French Ivorian protests continue; The Ivory Coast, the world's largest cocoa producer, has appealed for an end to the mob violence which erupted after France destroyed most of the West African's air force in retaliation of the killing of nine French peacekeepers. Due to the unrest, the price of cocoa has risen sharply in London. This violence not only has an effect on cocoa, but also threatens stability in a country that has been plagued by conflicts for years.
