Feature of the Month: Renewable Energy

Advancement in manufacturing and technology continue to change the world. At the crossroads of these two is renewable energy. The world continues to increase its energy use as economies develop. At no point in history has the growth of renewable energy been higher. From 2007 to today energy garnered from wind has increased at an astounding 309 percent. Over about the same time period solar energy has grown at 607 percent with 2013 being a record year for the industry.

Further progress is being made on the diplomatic end. Fukushima, a Japanese city, signed a pact with the German state North Rhine-Westphalia that signals an alliance to promote renewable energy. Over the next three years the partnership will set up trade fairs that allow businesses to inquire about renewable energy as well as research in the sector.

The International Renewable Energy Agency, or IRENA, held its 4th assembly about a month ago where a plan to double renewables share of the global energy market by 2030 was laid out. The race is on to make the world more sustainable.
