Diagnostic Tools
In today's global market place, competition is continuing to become increasingly intense. To help businesses better compete in this type of environment, and allow business students to learn about different approaches to global expansion through hands-on experience, a team of researchers at the MSU-CIBER located in the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management at Michigan State University (and partially funded by the United States Department of Education) has developed a suite of decision support tools.
Based on your personal inputs, these tools offer guidance, complete with descriptive graphics, charts, and specific business recommendations, tailored to your needs. To provide this customized feedback, the web-based tools use algorithms to provide you with the best solution for your situation. Your own private consultant is only a few keystrokes away!
Since the main premise of the Diagnostic Tools is to facilitate learning and increase awareness about conducting business in a global environment, this suite of tools is an excellent device for training purposes. The two primary audiences who may benefit are higher education institutions and other business-training providers, such as export assistance agencies. The tools may serve many different functions, such as facilitating case study analyses. There is also educational value to be found for students acting as consultants for local businesses, through community outreach programs for example. The firm benefits from innovative business solutions and the students gain invaluable work experience, as well as class credit; a truly win-win situation! There is also a wide range of uses to be found for Diagnostic tools outside of an academic setting:
- Government/Consulting Agencies:
- Developing government policies
- Preparing other businesses for expansion into foreign markets
- Establishing best practices and aiding training programs
- Business:
- Gauging the organization's global competitiveness
- Exploring the compatibility of international venture partners
- Establishing the ability to leverage resources when dealing
with freight forwarders and distributors

"Over the years we have provided export related consulting services to a large number of U.S. companies. Our job has been made easier since we started using CORE as a tool. It has also helped our customers better understand and control the export decision-making process."
