What information is available on Industry Profiles?
The industry profiles section provides current information on the background, business climate, trade, news, upcoming events, and important corporations for 20 global industries. In addition, users have access to risk assessments and interactive trade information modules and statistics. These features are complemented with a wide array of online resources carefully selected and annotated for your perusal.
How do I find information about a particular industry?
The easiest way to get to an industry's site is to hover over the word "industries" in the top menu-bar and hover over “all sectors” where you will find a list of all 20 industries. In addition, clicking on "industries" in the top menu-bar will also redirect you to the industry homepage, which lists all the industries in alphabetical order.
What is the resources page and how do I view resources for an industry?
The resources page for each industry provides links that are specific to that industry. These resources are external websites that the globalEDGE staff has deemed reputable. Each resource is annotated with a brief description. To view the resources page, first select an industry. Within the industry’s page, click on the resources link on the left menu bar and it will direct you to the resources page for your specific industry.
What is the events page and how do I view events for an industry?
The events page features upcoming events and academic conferences for each industry. In addition, globalEDGE lists external websites, which host listings of upcoming events. To access the events page, you must first select a particular industry. Within the industry page, click on the events link on the left menu bar and it will direct you to the events page for your specific industry.
What is the risk description page and how do I view risk description information for an industry?
The risk description page provides a risk ratings and an accompanying write-up from Coface. The write-ups analyze the current risk situation of each industry focusing on trends and market conditions. The industries also receive an overall grade assessing the risk of the industry worldwide, as well as a grade for various regions of the world. To view the risk description page, you must first select a specific industry. Within the industry’s page, click on the risk description link on the left menu bar and it will direct you to the risk description page for your specific industry. Note: not all industries have risk descriptions, only industries on globalEDGE with risk descriptions available from Coface.
What is the trade statistics page and how do I view trade information for an industry?
The trade statistics page provides interactive statistics. Statistics provided include export, import, net trade, percentage share exports (for a specific country), and percentage share of imports (for a specific country) for each industry. The initial view shows the top 10 countries based on exports within an industry in a table and a pie chart. There is also an option to view all countries. To view the trade information page, you must first select a specific industry. Within the industry’s page, click on the trade information link on the left menu bar and it will direct you to the trade information page for your specific industry
There is also a trade graphs page, which provides graphic representation of the top five exporters and importers for an industry, as well as net trade for each country. What is the corporations page and how do I view corporations for an industry?
The corporations page provides a listing of companies from the Forbes Global 2000 that operate in the industry. The listings are from the 2000 largest companies worldwide, based on a composite score from sales, profits, assets, and market value. To view the corporations page, you must first select a specific industry. Within the industry’s page, click on the trade graphs link on the left menu bar and it will direct you to the corporations page for your specific industry.
Why can’t I find a section for an industry?
Certain features are unavailable for all industries. Unfortunately, due to the eclectic definitions of industries, many sources provide information for different sets of "industries." The match between the industries of globalEDGE and the "industries" of others may not always be one-to-one.
