What information do I find on State Insights?

This section provides a wide array of state-specific information for all fifty of the United States. This information includes history, statistics, background information, corporations, trade statistics, headlines and links for each state.

How do I find a particular state’s information?

To access the page for any state hover over “states” in the top navigation menu, a dropdown will appear, states are categorized by region and all are listed under “all states.” Hover over the region in which the state is located to see the list of states in that region or select the state from the list of “all states.” To see a list of all 50 states you can click on the drop down menu option “all states” and you will be taken to a state list in alphabetical order.

What is the trade statistics page and how do I view trade information for a state?

The trade statistics page provides interactive statistics. Statistics provided include export, import, net trade, percentage share exports (for a specific country), and percentage share of imports (for a specific country) for each state. The initial view shows the top 10 countries that is exports to by that state. There is also an option to view the U.S. State Trade Comparator for all states. To view the trade information page, you must first select a specific industry. Within the industry’s page, click on the trade information link on the left menu bar and it will direct you to the trade information page for your specific industry.

What is the difference between IB Statistics and Trade Statistics?

Trade Statistics focuses on comparing export partners and products of each state with both amongst other states and countries. IB Statistics provides statistics relating to Foreign Direct Investment, Exports, Impacts of Trade, and gives Foreign Consular Offices and contact information for all Foreign Trade Zones and U.S. Department of Commerce.

What is the Corporations Page?

The Corporations page lists Fortune 1000 Corporations headquartered within that state and their corresponding Fortune 100 Ranking, Tax Rate for individuals and corporations, and the Business Tax Climate Index Rankings.

What is Capitol Memory?

Capitol Memory is a game that allows you to test your knowledge of state capitals. You can get to this game by through the states main navigation drop down menu, then hover over tools & games and click the capitol memory option that appears. You will be asked the capital of a certain state and given five options, select which you believe to actually be the capital and click submit. You will be told right away if the answer you submitted was correct or not and a new question will pop up. There is also an option to "skip this question."

What is a state memo and how do I view a state’s memo?

The memos summarize all the key data and important information for a state and clearly display it on a letter size page. The memos are also available in PDF; there is a “downloadable PDF” link on each memo. To view a state’s memo either click “state memo” from the left navigation bar from a state’s page or select “state memos” from the "states” drop down menu and select a state. State memos are perfect when on the go or in a hurry!
