Introduction: Media and Communications Download PDF

The media and communications industry makes the world a smaller place by entertaining, informing, and connecting people around the world.

Risk Description

Telecommunications Equipment
Despite the continuing dynamism of the Internet and emerging markets this year, business activity will stagnate in network equipment and slow in mobile telephones. Fierce competition — due notably to the increased presence of actors from China in the network equipment segment — will affect prices and margins with some actors suffering losses as a result. The consumption slowdown in developed countries will dampen mobile telephone sales, a trend the boom in emerging countries, where average prices are lower, will not suffice to offset entirely. In that context, sector companies will continue the concentration movement, prefer to subcontract production, and not hesitate to delocalise other functions like research to low-cost regions. They will pursuee diversification into services, where necessary via alliances with software and content editors.
