Job Description

North Carolina Central University (NCCU) invites nominations and expressions of interest for the position of Dean of the School of Business.

The new Dean will join NCCU at a time of tremendous opportunity. As the chief academic officer of the school, the Dean will be a change agent, able to lead the school’s strategy to create a distinctive niche among competitors, optimize student enrollment and academic quality, enhance the school’s external recognition and support the further integration of the school into the business community.

Founded in 1910, NCCU, the first public liberal arts institution for African Americans in the nation, also opened its doors to students for business education. In 1972, NCCU created the School of Business on its main campus in Durham, NC. Since then, the School of Business and NCCU continue to be a first choice, regionally and nationally recognized comprehensive university, while maintaining the historical identity of its liberal arts college roots. The School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International) and offers programs of study leading to the bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration (with concentrations in Entrepreneurship, Finance, General Business, Management, and Marketing), Computer Science and Business, Hospitality and Tourism Administration, and a minor in Business and in Computer Information Systems. The School offers the MBA and joint degree programs with other disciplines on campus, including the MBA/JD (with the School of Law) and the MBA/MIS (with the School of Library and Information Sciences).

The Dean will provide academic support for the School's faculty, fostering research, teaching, and service, and will articulate the School's vision and goals externally to the private sector and internally to the University community for purposes of collaboration and fundraising. A new building for the School of Business is planned, and the new Dean will have the opportunity to provide input into its design. Candidates must bring a distinguished record of accomplishments and senior leadership experience in business education or the private sector; an earned doctorate degree and professional experience to qualify for tenure at the rank of professor are required. The successful candidate will also have a combination of strong scholarship and teaching experience. Detailed knowledge and experience with AACSB accreditation process are required.

For fullest consideration, applicant materials should be received by March 12, 2018.

Candidates should provide a letter of application that addresses the responsibilities and requirements described in the Leadership Statement; Curriculum Vitae, and the names and contact information of five references. Additional information is available at www.wittkieffer.com.

References will not be contacted without prior knowledge and approval of candidates. These materials should be sent electronically via e-mail to the North Carolina Central University’s consultants Oliver B. Tomlin, III, Khalilah Lawson and Christine J. Pendleton at NCCUBusiness@wittkieffer.com. Documents that must be mailed may be sent to Witt/Kieffer, 7250 Woodmont Avenue, Suite 240 Bethesda, MD 20814.

The consultants can be reached by telephone at (630) 990-1370.

North Carolina Central University values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity for all persons regardless of age, color, disability, ethnicity, marital status, national origin, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, veteran status or any other status protected by law.
