Job Description

Assistant Professor: Call for Expression of Interest The Institute for International Business at WU Vienna is looking for an Assistant Professor in Strategy and International Business. The starting date will be approximately October 2020.

WU is the largest business university in the European Union and is centrally located at the heart of Europe, with over 22,000 students and roughly 2,100 employees. WU’s modern campus, right next door to Vienna’s expansive Prater Park, offers impressive, award-winning architecture and an excellent working environment. The city of Vienna is frequently ranked as one of the best cities in the world to live in. The Institute for International Business at WU Vienna is one of the most active groups focusing on International Business in Europe. The Institute has 6 full professors, 5 assistant professors, and 14 Ph.D. students. The first graduates of our recently established Ph.D. program have accepted offers from places such as Imperial College London, BI Norwegian Business School and Erasmus University. Our faculty regularly publishes in top strategy and international business journals (e.g., over the last two years in SMJ, GSJ, SEJ, AMJ, JoM, JIBS, JMS, JWB). The Institute offers an undergraduate minor in International Business and is in charge of the prestigious CEMS Master in International Management.

The assistant professor position is a 6-year non-tenure track contract including the expectation to teach two short courses a semester (i.e., ~100 contact hours per year) at the undergraduate and graduate level. Opportunities to receive research budget are available (e.g., to hire research assistants).

The salary is competitive given the relatively modest cost of living and can be increased with bonuses for publications and supervision of master and bachelor theses. The working language is English and knowledge of German is not a requirement. Applicants should hold, or be about to complete, a Ph.D. in Strategic Management or International Business from an accredited institution and have strong publication potential. Preference will be given to applicants specialized in strategy and organization of multinational companies, the role of hierarchy, and headquarters-subsidiary relationships.

To request an interview during the AIB in Copenhagen (June 24-27) or at AOM please send a CV to phillip.nell@wu.ac.at no later than June 20th. Further information about the Institute for International Business can be found here: https://www.wu.ac.at/iib/

Note: WU Vienna is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to equality, ethics, inclusivity, diversity, and transparency.
