Oregon is located in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. Many of the state’s earliest settlers made their way to Oregon via the Oregon Trail, which was the main route by which pioneers migrated across the country. Natural resources have historically driven Oregon’s economy, with vast expanses of forest spurring a booming lumber industry. World War II brought a wave of development to Oregon, which became a major producer of ships, aluminum, food, and lumber. The state has attempted to move away from its natural resource dependency toward a mixed manufacturing and marketing economy. Oregon’s top exports are computers and electronic components, crops, and transportation equipment.
