Nowadays many companies are becoming more environmentally conscious and are looking for new business practices that support sustainability. A company called Neutral Fuels in the United Arab Emirates has developed an innovating process that promotes sustainable development while also generating a healthy profit. Neutral Fuels converts used vegetable and cooking oil from local fast food restaurants to biodiesel so that it can be used to fuel trucks. This waste conversion process has had a tremendous impact on the environment and oil production in the United Arab Emirates.

Carbon emissions are reduced by 60 to 80 percent when using the converted biodiesel compared to the traditional diesel fuel. Besides being good for the environment, the biodiesel is also very adaptable to any diesel engine type. The biodiesel produced by Neutral Fuels can be used by any normal diesel engine which makes it unique from other conversion techniques that require specialized and converted engines. The process has been not only good for the environment but also good for generating a profit. Because of this profitability, similar biodiesel programs from re-used cooking oil are beginning operations in Germany, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and also in areas of the United States.

Given that the United Arab Emirates is the world’s eighth largest oil producer, it’s perhaps a surprise that the biodiesel project is gaining momentum and rivaling other oil productions regulated by the country. However, the biodiesel project exhibits a great business model where waste can be turned into profit and environmental sustainability can be achieved. Hopefully in time other businesses across the world can join the efforts in developing environmentally friendly business practices and creating a sustainable environment for future generations.
