  1. 1894

    Britain and the Boer Republic of Transvaal begin joint rule of Swaziland.

  2. 1907

    Swaziland becomes a British High Commission territory.

  3. 1968

    Swaziland is granted formal independence within the British commonwealth.

  4. 1977

    The parliamentary system is temporarily abolished and replaced by traditional tribal communities.

  5. 2011
