Eswatini: History

Britain and the Boer Republic of Transvaal jointly rule Eswatini.

Eswatini becomes a British High Commission Territory.

Eswatini is granted formal independence within the British Commonwealth.

Eswatini is hit by a budget crisis described by the IMF as "critical" as its economic crisis worsens, with the government struggling to pay the salaries of public sector workers.

Eswatini is excluded from a program giving duty-free access to the U.S. market because of human rights concerns. 

King Mswati III announces that he is changing the official name of the country from the Kingdom of Swaziland to the Kingdom of Eswatini.
