Kiribati: Introduction

Kiribati is an island nation located in the central tropical Pacific Ocean. It is comprised of 32 atolls and one raised coral island. Kiribati is about half way between Hawaii and Australia. The government system is a republic. The chief of state and head of government is the President. Kiribati has a mixed economic system in which the economy includes a variety of private freedom, combined with weak centralized economic planning and government regulation.
