WU (Vienna University of Economics and Business) is currently inviting applications for the position of a Full Professor of International Business with a special focus on SME internationalization at the Department of Global Business and Trade.

WU is one of the largest business universities in the European Union and is centrally located at the heart of Europe. The University maintains an excellent position as a center for research and teaching and attracts an international group of students and faculty. It offers a broad range of undergraduate, graduate, and executive programs in the area of business, economics, and business law. WU has been granted triple accreditation by EQUIS, AACSB, and AMBA, and is a member of a number of international networks such as PIM and CEMS.

The successful candidate will enrich or extend the profile of the Department of Global Business and Trade in the field of corporate internationalization, with special consideration of export-oriented small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The successful candidate will continue to develop the Department’s contacts to internationalizing SMEs and coordinate teaching SME Internationalization at the bachelor’s level as a new English-language track in the specialization “International Business”. International risk management will be part of this specialization. At the master’s level, teaching activities will include the mixed English/German-language master’s program “Export- und International-isierungsmanagement.” The successful candidate is expected to have established an international reputation as a researcher in his/her field and to have an outstanding publication record.

Required skills and qualifications:

  1. a solid academic qualification (e.g. Ph.D., habilitation) in the field of International or Strategic Management or a related area;
  2. an outstanding international reputation in high-quality scholarship in the area of International Business including the internationalization of SMEs commensurate with academic age, especially by having demonstrated the ability to publish in top-tier journals of the field;
  3. excellent teaching qualifications at undergraduate and graduate level as well as in executive teaching;
  4. proven international experience;
  5. a strong record in attracting research funding;
  6. leadership qualities;
  7. gender mainstreaming skills.

The successful candidate will participate in teaching programs at all levels (bachelor, MSc, doctorate and executive education) and we expect the new professor to take an active role in the ongoing development of the academic programs. Teaching experience in English and language proficiency in German are required. The new professor is expected to take an active role in the University’s self-governance.
