The Chair of Institutional and Innovation Economics, especially Japan/East Asia, Department of Management and Microeconomics at Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, invites applications for a
Ph.D. research position / Post Doc
(E13 TV-G-U, part-time 50%)

The appointment term is May 01, 2013 - January 31, 2017 (pending final approval of the AFRASO program by the Ministry).  

Activities include original research and fieldwork in Africa, participating in the day-to-day activities of the project, and producing both sole-authored and co-authored publications. Based in Frankfurt, the post will require travel overseas for up to 32 weeks in Africa over the four years period of employment. The position provides a great opportunity for independent research, and in particular for preparation of a doctoral dissertation.  

Requirements are an above-average master or “Diplom” degree either in economics or business administration, or applicants have passed the first year in an economic/ management science PhD program with distinction.

The successful candidate will have relevant research experience, preferably relating to management, field experiments and/or developmental economics.  

The research project is part of the Research Program “AFRASO – Africa’s Asian Options: New Interactions between Africa and Asia” that is jointly organized by the Interdisciplinary Center of East Asian Studies (IZO) and the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Africa (ZIAF) of the Goethe University. Pending final approval, the AFRASO research program will be funded by a special grant from the Federal Ministry of Higher Education and Research of Germany.  The project will explore Japanese management practices in Africa.
