The School of Management (SoM) of the Politecnico di Milano was established in 2003 by grouping together the Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering and its subsidiary graduate school (MIP – School of Business) focused on post-experience education. The SoM delivers an end-to-end portfolio of services in research, education and high-level consultancy within the field of management, economics, and industrial engineering. Being part of the Politecnico di Milano allows the School to transfer the attention for scientific rationality and quantitative methods typical of the engineering mindset to the area of management. The institution constantly pursue interdisciplinarity in both research and education, by making use of the wide array of technical expertise within the sixteen different departments belonging to Politecnico di Milano.

In 2007, the School of Management first achieved the prestigious EQUIS accreditation (European Quality Improvement System) and joined the circle of around the 140 leading business schools accredited by EFMD (European Foundation for Management Development). In 2009, the School was included for the first time in the Financial Times rankings of top European Business Schools and it is now ranked 38th with four programs: Executive MBA, Full-time MBA, Master of Science in Management Engineering and the Customised Corporate Education Programs.

On the other hand, the Department carries out research with the ultimate goal of contributing to the development and dissemination of knowledge, managerial and engineering paradigms, technologies and policies to answer key societal challenges. The Department also runs consulting projects, employs permanent faculty and organizes degree courses in Management Engineering, both at BSc (3 years) and MSc (2 years) levels, as well as a PhD Programme.

The position:

A public selection process has been launched to award one grant for a full time research fellowship for a period of two years at the Department of Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano. The research activity will be coordinated by a scientific supervisor identified by the Department and will be carried out within the field of Innovation in Management, Economics and Industrial Engineering. The selection is open to Italian and foreign scholars who have recently received a Ph.D., preferably in the fields of Applied Economics, Management and Industrial Engineering or related areas. Mastering of methodologies of quantitative/qualitative research will lay weight on the final selection. Applicants should have the ability to work with colleagues from other disciplines and a proven track record of publications (or in-progress publications).The successful candidate is expected to conduct his/her research in the field, and publish in (leading) refereed journals. Participation in conference organization or other coordination tasks may be required periodically.

  4. Managing ICT for Business, Industry, Government and Society – Levering on Information and Communication Technologies for more competitive companies, better public services and a more sustainable and inclusive society
  5. Energy Management, Policy and Economics – Applied and advisory research towards more secure, clean and efficient energy
  6. Public Service Innovation – Institutional and organizational changes for a better society and a more competitive economy
  7. Health Care Management – Models, Tools and Policies for improving the sustainability, efficiency and safety of healthcare organizations and their clinical outcomes
  8. Open and Collaborative Innovation – How to manage strategy, organization, technologies and communities to increase innovation propensity in companies through open and collaborative innovation
  9. High-Growth Entrepreneurial Ventures and SMEs – How to manage, finance and promote the creation of entrepreneurial ventures and the innovation of high-growth SMEs
  10. Fostering Competitiveness of National and Local Systems – Promoting the competitiveness of national and local systems through internationalization and innovation.

The amount of the grant, covering the contract period, is EUR 70,000.00 (before deductions) and will be paid in a monthly stipend. The post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for an initial period of 2 years.
