Manhattanville College, an independent coeducational liberal arts college located 28 miles of New York City in suburban Westchester, invites applications and nominations for Dean of the School of Graduate and Professional Studies.

The School currently offers MS programs with a Management / Business focus and a professional Certificate program in Non Profit Leadership. We seek a dynamic and innovative leader who will provide vision and direction for the School, while working in a collaborative manner with faculty and college administrators to develop new programs and chart the School’s future, including its possible evolution into a School of Commerce, Business, or Management with a global focus. In keeping with goals identified in the Strategic Plan, the College aspires to build distinctive graduate and professional programs that draw upon our Liberal Arts tradition of undergraduate and graduate education as well as our historic commitment to preparing students for service and leadership within a global community. In support of the College’s mission, the Dean will lead and develop programs that embody our commitment to instilling habits of lifelong learning, innovation, and excellence rooted in ethical values. The Deanship is a twelve-month administrative position, and the appointee should have credentials suitable for appointment as a faculty member in one of the departments of the College. Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience.

The ideal candidate will:
• Hold an earned doctorate from a nationally recognized accredited higher education institution in an a discipline or concentration offered within the College through either the undergraduate Department of Economics, Finance and Management, the School of Graduate and Professional Studies, or a closely-related area
• Possess exemplary leadership ability and experience relevant to the mission of the College and the business orientation of the programs in the School of Graduate and Professional Studies
• Have an understanding of the role of business within the philosophy and mission of a liberal arts centered College
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and scholarship as well as faculty and staff development
• Demonstrate ability to collaborate with faculty and staff to effectively lead and engage faculty, students, and departments as well as key partners in business and industry in the tri-state area, as well as nationally and globally
• Have prior experience with (or willingness to develop expertise in) program development, assessment, and accreditation
• Have a record of promoting excellence in teaching, research and service, developing and managing resources and staff, working with alumni and other external constituencies, collaborating on grants, and fostering donor relations
• Have knowledge of and/or experience in developing distance education and hybrid instructional formats The Dean reports to the Provost and, with the Dean of the School of Education and to-be-appointed Dean of the undergraduate College, he / she will serve as a member of the Provost’s Council. The Dean will be expected to work collaboratively with the Provost and other units of the College in advancing the School.

Applicants must provide detailed current curriculum vitae, a letter describing their vision for a distinctive set of graduate professional programs in Business, Management, and Administration within a liberal arts college, and the names and contact details of five referees who can speak to their administrative and leadership strengths. Review of applications will begin on May 15, 2010, and continue until an appointment is made. The successful appointee may be able to start as early as August 1, 2010. A January 1, 2011, start date is desirable.
