The University of Michigan - Flint invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the School of Management. Established in 1975, the School of Management (SOM) is the oldest professional school on the Flint campus. The School has 21 full-time faculty and 9 staff. The School enrolls nearly 900 undergraduate students, offering degrees in accounting, finance, general business, international business, and management (with tracks in entrepreneurship, human resource management and operations management). In addition, the School of Management enrolls approximately 192 MBA students in two different modes of delivery, a traditional program and the innovative NetPlus! mixed-mode program. The MBA program offers degrees in accounting, computer information system, finance, health care management, lean manufacturing, marketing and organizational leadership. A Masters in Accounting is planned to be implemented in Fall 2012.

The Dean of the School of Management reports to the Provost and is responsible for the overall academic, administrative, and fiscal leadership of the School. Responsibilities will include: advancing the shared vision, mission, and core values of the School of Management; promoting excellence in teaching, research and engaged service among School faculty and staff; developing external relationships and fundraising opportunities in support of the School’s programs. The dean will manage a budget of $5.1 million. In addition, the dean will be expected to actively participate in the community and increase the visibility of the School, and collaborate with the other Academic Deans in order to achieve the academic mission of the University.

The successful candidate will possess a proven commitment to student success and lifelong learning, along with good character and high integrity. He or she will have a strong commitment to shared governance and collaborative decision-making and have significant academic experience and/or exceptional equivalent business experience. The Dean will have proven leadership, including the presence, energy, insight and commitment needed to shape the School’s future, a willingness to work collaboratively with faculty and staff in a diverse, cross-disciplinary environment, and a demonstrated ability to obtain external resources and funding. The Dean should have a strong commitment to intellectual inquiry and high standards for research and teaching along with excellent communication skills. The Dean should have demonstrated commitment to working with culturally diverse communities, providing appropriate programs, and recruiting and retaining diverse students and faculty, and a commitment to maintaining AACSB-International accreditation. In addition, the successful candidate should have a commitment to global business education along with an understanding of working collaboratively with faculty within a cross-disciplinary school, and finally, an earned doctorate in a business or related discipline, with a record that warrants appointment as a tenured full professor is preferred.
