Nauru: Introduction
Nauru is an island nation in Micronesia in the South Pacific. Its nearest neighbor is Kiribati to the east. The island is surrounded by a coral reef which has prevented the establishment of the seaport, although artificial channels have been made to allow small boats access to the island. The government system is a parliamentary republic; the chief of state and head of government is the president. Nauru has a mixed economic system that is heavily dependent on Australia.
