Colombia:

Colombia emerged as a sovereign nation along with Ecuador and Venezuela after the collapse of Gran Colombia in 1830. Since the 1950's, conflict between government forces and anti-government militia have been fueled by drug trade on both sides, escalating to new extremes in the 1990's. Since 2002, violence has been decreasing,  but attacks continue on civilian areas. Since 2006, 32,000 insurgents have been demobilized and the Colombian government has been reasserting control through out the country through increased administrative action. Neighboring countries are still concerned about violence spilling over across Colombia's borders.
