During the last two decades, José Ramon Valente has been a permanent and active actor on public policies, macroeconomic issues and financial markets in Chile. He has been board member at several Chilean and foreign companies, and was a columnist for La Tercera newspaper, El Libero online newspaper and radio panelist on Radio Duna. He took office on March 11, 2018 as Minister of Economy of Chile. Chile is a South American country occupying a long, narrow strip of land between the Andes to the east and the Pacific Ocean to the west. It borders Peru to the north, Bolivia to the northeast, Argentina to the east, and the Drake Passage in the far south. Chile has some 17 million people. The GDP per capita is about $26,000.
