Since 2007, the Gaza Strip has been burdened by a land, air, and sea blockade imposed by Israel. Gaza is a self-governing territory but was seized by Israel in 1967, leading to intense restrictions that have cut Gaza off from hospitals, banks, religious practices, and other essentials in the community. The primary goal of this blockade has been to prevent imports of materials that Gazans could use for military use. For fishermen needing to travel through the Gaza Strip and buy necessary fishing equipment, these restrictions are severely limiting their ability to work in this industry.

The Israeli bombardment has so far destroyed 50 factories that previously produced food, textiles, and other goods according to the Vice President of the Palestinian Federation of Industries, Ali Al-Hayek. In addition to the poor economic effects of these attacks, citizen’s homes have also been destroyed. During July’s fighting alone, at least 2,655 homes have been extremely or entirely damaged. With 4,000 active technology start-ups, Israel has more such firms than any country outside of the United States.  With a population of nearly eight million people, Israel has higher levels of start-ups, engineers, and venture capital investment per capita than any other nation.  High tech products make up almost half of Israel’s annual exports.  While this may appear surprising at first, a variety of factors can be attributed to Israel’s maturation from an agricultural state to a technology hub in recent years.

I recently came across a particularly interesting opinion about veterans of the Israeli army. The article asserted that veterans of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) not only have skills for combat, but are equipped to address everyday problems of regular consumers. Many of these veterans are valued for their strong values and ethics in the private sector. So, how is the MBA viewed out there in the international community? Is it worth the time and money?
